Lucky numbers made 7,000 lottery tickets winners in NC. What was the combination?
A set of numbers proved to be a lucky combination — and now thousands of North Carolina lottery tickets are winners.
More than 7,000 tickets scored prizes in the Pick 3 game, which allows lottery players to choose their own three numbers or have a lottery machine select them at random.
It turns out, many people tried the combination 2-2-2. That same sequence was picked in the Sept. 15 evening drawing, leading to droves of lucky tickets, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and on the social media platform X.
“There were 7,483 winning tickets totaling over $3 million in cash prizes,” lottery officials wrote.
It’s not the first time a drawing has led to lots of wins. The latest payout and number of winning tickets are “similar to the last few Pick 3 drawings” that resulted in three-of-a-kind combinations, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News via email.
For the Sept. 15 evening drawing, winners who spent 50 cents to play the game are in for $250 prizes. Meanwhile, those who paid $1 now have tickets worth $500, rules show.
