An accused burglar forced a woman to undress, then sexually assaulted her, California deputies say.

Deputies responded to a report of a burglary and sexual assault in San Marcos on July 8, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said in a July 15 news release.

Deputies said they learned a man forced his way into a woman’s room, “armed with a box cutter.”

McClatchy News is not naming the 41-year-old suspect as he has not been formally charged.

The man made the woman take off “several items of jewelry,” then he forced the woman to undress and sexually assaulted her, according to deputies.

During the alleged assault, the woman fought the man until he fled the home, deputies said.

A week later, the man was arrested on multiple counts, including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with the intent to commit a felony, and grand theft, deputies said.

Deputies told KNSD “the assault with intent to commit a felony charge will encompass the sexual assault.”

In a July 16 email to McClatchy News, a spokesperson for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said charges against the man had not been filed, pending the police department’s completion of its investigation.

The man, who is being held on $100,000 bail, is scheduled to appear in court July 18, jail records show.

San Marcos is about a 35-mile drive north from San Diego.
