Missing girl found in ceiling of convicted sex offender’s hotel room, IN cops say
A girl believed to be a missing juvenile briefly answered the door when deputies looking for her knocked, according to an Indiana sheriff’s office. Then, she quickly shut it.
Minutes later, a convicted sex offender answered the door of the Evansville room, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said June 26.
As deputies entered the hotel room and searched, they discovered the girl hidden within the ceiling tiles, deputies said in a news release.
Christopher Gamble, 26, was identified as the man in the room with the girl, according to authorities. He had active warrants and was arrested.
Previously, he had been convicted of rape and child molestation in 2016 and was required to register as a sex offender.
He is accused of violating his parole conditions and removing his GPS monitor, deputies said.
Gamble is now facing additional charges, including assisting a criminal, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, parole violation and failure to register as a sex offender, the sheriff’s office said.
He is currently held in Vanderburgh County Jail. Deputies said they expect more charges to be filed.
Evansville is about a 175-mile drive southwest from Indianapolis.
