84-year-old dragged into alley screams as man tries to rape her, CA cops say

A 39-year-old man was arrested in the attempted rape of a woman, California officials said.

On June 5, Santa Monica officers responded after getting reports of a woman screaming, according to a June 17 news release from the city of Santa Monica.

The 84-year-old woman told officers a man, later identified as Pape Tall of Long Beach, grabbed her from behind and pulled her into an alley before trying to rape her, officers said.

Witnesses along with the woman told officers Tall then left the scene, police said.

He was later arrested, officers said.

On June 9, felony charges of kidnapping with intent to commit rape, assault with intent to commit rape and violation of probation were filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office against Tall, officers said.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 9, officers said.

Santa Monica is about a 20-mile drive southwest from downtown Los Angeles.
