A man met a 14-year-old girl while playing online video games, then convinced her to run away with him so they could be together, Texas deputies said.

Nearly a year later, the girl and the 28-year-old man were found in a vacant residence in Houston, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said in an April 10 Facebook post.

The teen is now 15 years old, according to deputies. The two engaged in sex acts and were in a “dating relationship,” the constable’s office said.

A caller told deputies about suspicious activity coming from his empty property and said two people were inside, authorities said.

When officers arrived, the two tried to run off but were detained, according to the news release.

The girl was taken to a facility to be reunited with her parents, deputies said.

The man, identified as Tarik Exavier Jammer, was arrested and charged with sexual performance of a child, Constable Mark Herman said. He is held in Harris County Jail and his bond has not been set, he said.

Deputies did not disclose where in California the teen was from.

An investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
