A mother is accused of speeding at 100 mph while drunk and with her children in the car, then attacking a deputy who pulled her over, Texas authorities said.

A deputy stopped the speeding vehicle on Monday, March 31, in Katy, a suburb west of Houston, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said in an April 2 news release.

After approaching the vehicle, the deputy noticed there were two children inside, ages 9 and 12, and their mother “displayed signs of intoxication,” according to Herman.

The deputy carried out several field sobriety tests, which the woman failed, indicating that she was under the influence, the release said. She became belligerent, refused to listen to the deputy’s commands and punched him in the face when he tried to restrain her, authorities said.

“Further investigation revealed she had two open warrants for unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana out of the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office,” the constable said.

She was booked into the Harris County Jail on those warrants, and charges of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger and assault on a public servant.

Katy is about 30 miles west from downtown Houston.
