A mom is accused of drinking before driving her kids to school, Colorado officials said.

On March 20, one of the woman’s kids told elementary school staff that their mom was “driving recklessly” while taking them to school and had been drinking that morning, according to a news release by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

McClatchy News is not identifying the suspect to protect the identity of the minors.

The woman, 36, veered off the road and into oncoming traffic while taking her three kids to school, officials said.

McClatchy News reached out to the Pueblo County School District on March 25 for comment and was awaiting a response.

A school resource officer learned of visible injuries on one of the woman’s kids, officials said. The injuries were “reportedly inflicted by the mother” that morning, according to the sheriff’s office, and the child was taken to a hospital.

The mother was arrested and booked into jail on charges of child abuse and three counts of child abuse knowingly and recklessly, officials said.

Pueblo County is about a 120-mile drive southeast of Denver.
