Tornado sirens rang out through a Missouri town as a mother walked out of her home, leaving her four young children by themselves, police said.

The kids — ages 8, 5, 3 and 8 months — were unsupervised in the Saint Ann home as a severe storm swept debris through the area, caused brush fires and took down power lines, according to a criminal complaint filed March 15.

Now, the mother is facing multiple charges, including four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of resisting arrest, according to court records.

The woman’s attorney information was not listed.

The children were left alone for several hours, Saint Ann police said. When officers eventually located the mother, they said she showed signs of intoxication.

The mother hit and kicked officers as they arrested her, the complaint said.

She was jailed on a $75,000 cash-only bond, according to court records.

Saint Ann is about a 16-mile drive northwest from St. Louis.
