81-year-old found dead in 1997, Oklahoma cops say. Now, two family members arrested
A blood stain on a shoe led to the arrest of two family members of an 81-year-old woman found dead in her home 27 years ago, Oklahoma officials said.
Gerthie Carolina was stabbed to death in her Sasakwa home in August 1997, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Her case went cold for years — until 2023.
Now, Carolina’s niece, 81-year-old Carolyn Foreman, and her grandniece, 45-year-old Dakota Davis, are facing a murder charge, investigators said in a March 5 Facebook post.
Foreman is also charged with conspiracy, according to court records.
Foreman’s attorney did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on March 12. Attorney information for Davis was not listed.
A blood stain found on Davis’s shoe was linked to Foreman, officials told KOCO. New evidence was gathered in November 2023, and both were arrested March 4, investigators said.
In court documents, officials said Davis threw ammonia on Carolina’s face, then hit her with an ax, KOCO reported. Foreman had a gun, according to the documents.
Davis was arrested in Sacramento, California, and Foreman was arrested in Midwest City, Oklahoma, officials said.
Foreman is scheduled to appear in court March 20.
Sasakwa is about an 85-mile drive southeast from Oklahoma City.
