As a Virginia woman started scratching off a lottery ticket, she had a good feeling, lottery officials said.

“I think we might have won something,” Miranda Robbins remembered thinking, according to a March 5 Virginia Lottery news release.

Sure enough, she was right. Robbins won the first $100,000 top prize from a Lincoln ticket which she decided to buy for $5 while grocery shopping with her husband, lottery officials said.

“I’m still in shock,” Robbins told lottery officials while claiming her prize.

The odds of winning a top prize in the Lincoln game are 1 in 765,000 and the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.9, according to the lottery.

The game features prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000, lottery officials said.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
