Man stabs girlfriend 21 times after putting child in DC apartment’s back room, feds say
A man is going to prison after being convicted of stabbing his girlfriend more than 20 times in their Washington, D.C., apartment, federal officials said.
In September 2023, Devan Green, 30, held his girlfriend and her son against their will for over 40 minutes, according to a Feb. 7 news release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
The woman’s family kept calling 911, and Green put the woman’s son in the back bedroom of the apartment before stabbing her in the chest with a knife, officials said.
When the woman went to check on her child, Green stabbed her 20 more times before fleeing the apartment, prosecutors said.
He was arrested a month later, officials said.
McClatchy News reached out to Green’s lawyer on Feb. 10 for a statement and was awaiting a response.
In November 2024, after a 13-day trial, Green was found guilty on charges of assault with intent to kill while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault while armed, and assault with significant bodily injury while armed, officials said.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, officials said.
