Restaurant worker shoots attackers in kitchen, killing one, TN cops say. He’s charged
A worker under attack at a restaurant is facing a murder charge after he’s accused of pulling a gun to defend himself and started shooting, Tennessee investigators say.
Three people were hit and one died, the Jackson Police Department said in a Jan. 23 news release.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at a Slim Chickens restaurant in Jackson, and detectives say the murder charge is warranted due to a matter of timing.
The victim in the beating, 22-year-old Harrison Cobb, continued firing shots after the man was incapacitated on the floor, police said.
“A group of subjects entered the business and walked into the kitchen area (and) began to physically assault Cobb. ... He retrieved a handgun and began firing at the subjects,” police said.
“Andretti Siddell ... sustained injuries which rendered him immobile, but still alive at the time. After several moments passed, Cobb continuing to fire shots at Mr. Siddell although he was no longer a physical threat.”
Siddell, 32, was not armed, police said.
First responders tried to revive Siddell, but he died at the scene.
“Two of the subjects who were also with the group sustained non-life threatening injuries,” police said. “The entire incident was captured on video surveillance.”
Cobb was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder, police said.
Investigators have not released details of a motive in the attack.
Jackson is about an 85-mile drive northeast from Memphis.
