A woman was arrested after being accused of killing her dad during an argument, Maryland authorities said.

On Jan. 18, officers responded to a Baltimore home and learned 37-year-old Shanelle Reed had fatally shot her 59-year-old father, Brian Reed, according to a news release by the police department.

In a written statement obtained by WBAL, Reed said her father started to assault her over a lock on the door of the home, the outlet reported.

He was attempting to unscrew the deadbolt, WBFF reported, citing police.

“I shot towards him, which looked to be his left thigh,” Reed wrote in her statement that was obtained by WBFF. “He seemed to hesitate while still working on the door, but then, he eventually left the house, and I shot towards him once more, and called 911 to let them know.”

He was taken to the hospital for treatment but was eventually pronounced dead, police said.

Reed was arrested and taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where she was charged with first-degree murder, police said.
