Mom’s boyfriend accused of abusing toddler while she worked. ‘He was beat like a man’
A Pennsylvania man is behind bars after officials said he abused his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son.
Lyndon Gerald Henderson is charged with attempted homicide, three counts of aggravated assault, endangering welfare of children and reckless endangerment, according to court records.
The charges stem from an incident in late November.
On Nov. 23, authorities were called to a home in Washington County for reports of an unresponsive 1-year-old, according to WTAE.
The boy’s mother told police she left him with Henderson while she went to work, the news outlet reported.
Henderson, who was the mom’s boyfriend, told police the boy fell off the couch and hit the floor after he spun him around in circles, WPXI reported.
However, the boy was rushed to a hospital where doctors said his brain injuries were “100% unequivocally the result of child abuse,” according to the criminal complaint, KDKA reported.
The boy suffered from traumatic brain injury and had bruises, KDKA reported. He was put on a ventilator and state police told WPXI that he suffered a stroke and had a broken vertebra.
“It wasn’t good. He was on all kinds of machines. He was beat like a man. A man beat my grandson,” his grandmother, Carla Darrell, told WPXI. “He didn’t do (anything). There was nothing possible he could’ve (done) to do this to him.”
Henderson was denied bail, court records show. He is set to appear in court Jan. 15.
