A few files backed up to a Google account led to a discovery of “copious” amounts of child pornography, Indiana officials said.

The first two files, according to police, showed a toddler between 3- and 4-years-old without clothes and another was a video of a child about 8-years-old forced into sex acts with an adult man.

As police continued to look through the files, they said they learned who they belonged to. They found two photos, one of Jamie Sherfick’s driver’s license and another of him wearing an apron with the name of a day care on it, according to a probable cause affidavit filed on Nov. 22.

Sherfick, a day care worker at Little People Daycare in Elkhart, was charged with child exploitation and possession of child pornography, according to court documents. He was arrested Nov. 19 and booked into jail.

Attorney information for Sherfick was not listed. McClatchy News reached out to the day care but did not immediately receive a response.

About 70 files were found, but more than 20 files described in court documents mentioned children between the ages of 3-years-old and 12-years-old forced into sex acts.

When confronted by law enforcement, Sherfick said if he did take a photo of a naked todder, it would be to show his boss “because he noticed abuse or something,” according to the probable cause affidavit. Eventually, he admitted to taking the photo, police said.

However, his boss at the day care said nothing was reported, police said.

Other images on the man’s phone showed children at the day care center, the probable cause statement said.

Investigators said they also found exchanges on the Telegram app about child pornography in a group titled “Little Lovers.” Court documents said the group discussed sex acts involving children.

Sherfick is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 4.

Elkhart is about a 160-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
