‘Friendly’ dog got lost as Milton slammed Florida. See heartwarming reunion with owner
A “friendly” dog got lost as Hurricane Milton slammed Florida — then came a heartwarming reunion.
Photos from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay show the pup couldn’t contain herself when she finally saw her owner again.
“As the pictures tell, she was so happy to see her owner,” Regan Blessinger, marketing and content manager for the humane society, told McClatchy News in an Oct. 15 email. “The staff are always overjoyed when a pet and owner reunite!”
Though the animal shelter didn’t have specific details, it said Ayvah the dog got out as Hurricane Milton battered Florida’s Gulf Coast with storm surge and high winds. The deadly storm was a Category 3 when it made landfall Oct. 9 near Siesta Key, a roughly 70-mile drive south from Tampa, according to the National Weather Service and the Miami Herald.
After Ayvah got separated from her owner, she landed at the shelter. She became known as a “friendly” 2-year-old mixed-breed dog before her much-anticipated reunion.
Pictures of the joyful moments show Ayvah smiling and standing on her hind legs as her owner embraced her. The shelter shared the photos on Facebook, and the post gained more than 800 reactions in about 24 hours.
“The Face When... you are reunited with your owner after the Hurricane,” the shelter wrote in its caption.
