Gun jams as teen tries to open fire at Sweet 16 party he wasn’t invited to, cops say

A Pennsylvania teenager is facing charges including attempted murder after police said he tried to open fire at a party he wasn’t invited to, news outlets report.

Police received a 911 call from a home in Lower Paxton Township about an “incident involving a firearm” at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, the police department said in a news release.

According to investigators, a 16-year-old boy, identified as Liam McMillen, showed up to the home uninvited and got into an argument there.

A “Sweet 16” party was being held at the residence, police told WGAL. At some point during the gathering, McMillen heard something that made him angry, according to investigators.

Police say another teen at the party talked about throwing McMillen into the pool, WHP reported. McMillen confronted the partygoer, pulled out a gun, put it to his head and pulled the trigger — but it jammed, police said.

McMillen fled the scene but was later taken into custody, WHTM reported.

Witness accounts and video from the party captured the attempted shooting, police told the station.

Dauphin County court records show McMillen was booked on Sept. 18 on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a minor. He is being charged as an adult.

McMillen has been denied bail as he’s considered a “threat to society,” WHP reported.

Lower Paxton is a roughly 110-mile drive northwest from Philadelphia.
