A deceased newborn baby boy was found at the bottom of a trash compactor in a garbage truck, Texas deputies said.

Sanitation workers were collecting trash in a Houston neighborhood the morning of Aug. 14 when they discovered the baby boy among the trash in the compactor, Harris County deputies said.

“The workers noticed the body after stopping to compact garbage that had been collected,” deputies said in an email to McClatchy News.

The boy looked to be between a few days and a few weeks old, deputies said.

Authorities believe the baby came from a northwest Houston neighborhood, near the 13200 block of Fountain Crest Drive, where sanitation workers eventually discovered the body, according to a news conference posted on Facebook by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy to determine the infant’s exact age and cause of death is scheduled for Aug. 15, deputies said.
