Child whipped with extension cord for not doing chores, Ohio cops say. Woman charged
A child “ran away to get help” after Ohio police said he was whipped with an extension cord for not doing chores.
The child told police the abuse had occurred in the past, according to a probable cause document filed July 29 in Fairborn Municipal Court. Officers said they saw scars, open wounds and whip marks on the child’s back and arms.
The child was taken July 27 to a hospital to be treated as officers looked for the Beavercreek woman accused of whipping the child, according to a statement of facts.
Police said they spoke with the 36-year-old woman, and she told officers the child was misbehaving by playing video games instead of doing their chores. She grabbed an extension cord and whipped the child with it as a punishment, police said in court documents.
The woman’s attorney information was not listed.
When officers asked about the scars on the child’s body, the woman said they were from “hiking and walking through trees/bushes,” according to court documents. The officer pressed further, saying that her answer did not make sense.
The woman eventually said she had previously struck the child with a belt, the probable cause document said. She told officers she “normally” uses a belt to hit the child, according to police.
The woman’s relationship to the child was not disclosed in court documents.
The woman was arrested and charged with felonious assault and endangering children, court records show. McClatchy News is not naming the woman to the identity of the minor.
Beavercreek is about a 10-mile drive southeast from Dayton.
