Driver fights with pedestrians, leaves and then returns to run them over, Texas cops say
An altercation between a driver and two pedestrians turned deadly when the driver returned to run them both over, Texas authorities said.
Deputies responded at about 5 p.m. July 14 to multiple 911 calls about a several people, including one armed with a machete, fighting on the road in Edinburg, according to a Facebook post from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities found a 20-year-old woman dead at the scene with head injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The second victim, a 27-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to authorities.
Witnesses told law enforcement a man and a woman were walking down the road when a vehicle stopped and a “verbal altercation” with the driver began, deputies said.
The driver initially left but returned and ran both people over, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies detained the driver and the incident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities have not released the identities of the suspect or the victims. They have not specified who was wielding the machete.
