Teen raped 8-year-old sister over 20 years ago, officials say. Now he’s going to prison
A teen raped his sister when she was 8, California officials said. Decades later, the now-37-year-old man is going to prison.
In 2019, the man’s sister went into the Oxnard Police Department and told officers her brother raped her when she was 8 in 2001 and 2002, according to a news release by the Ventura County District Attorney.
McClatchy News is not identifying the brother to protect the identity of his sister.
The San Diego man was 14 and 15 years old when the assaults happened, officials said.
The case went from juvenile court to adult court, and the assaults were deemed “especially violent and severe,” officials said.
“I would have a completely different life and I would be a different person if (he) did not repeatedly rape and torture me,” the man’s sister said in court, according to the Ventura County Star.
He’s accused of planning the assault and threatening to kill his sister with a knife if she told, officials said.
“Facing her brother during today’s sentencing to give her victim impact statement took incredible strength and courage,” District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said in the release.
The brother’s attorney, Moriya Christie, told the Ventura County Star that he is remorseful and “is taking responsibility for” his actions.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of forcible rape, three counts of forcible oral copulation and two counts to sexual penetration by foreign object, prosecutors said.
He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, officials said.
Oxnard is about a 60-mile drive northwest of Los Angeles.
