Senior dog with ‘young spirit’ waited 800 days in Florida shelter. Now, he has a home
UPDATE: On June 13, a Humane Society Naples spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email that Bruno was adopted. The Florida shelter dog had waited more than 800 days for a home.
The original story is below.
A senior dog with a “young spirit” has spent more than 800 days in a Florida shelter — and still needs a home.
“Bruno is a gentle giant who loves playing with his favorite rope toy,” Humane Society Naples said in a video posted June 2 on Facebook. “He also loves to cuddle with his people and is the ultimate couch potato. Bruno is just looking for a chance.”
Bruno is ready for his next chapter more than two years after he landed at the humane society. Though the shelter didn’t share more details about how Bruno ended up in its care, it believes he keeps being passed over due to his age.
“He is 10 years old and often gets overlooked for the younger dogs,” despite having a “young spirit,” the shelter wrote in its post.
Over time, Bruno has become known for being playful and cuddly. And he has learned the trick of putting his paw inside someone’s hand to signal when he craves more attention.
“He will show off how happy he is during his walks and playtime by throwing his rope toys repeatedly in the air,” the shelter wrote in an online adoption profile. “Back at home, Bruno’s cozying up on the couch, his warm gaze radiating love and comfort, always there to keep your toes warm and your heart full.”
As of June 5, the online listing showed Bruno still available for adoption. On Facebook, the shelter also put out a call for a family willing to foster the mixed-breed pup.
“Let’s find him a foster home where he can get a long-overdue break from the shelter — he truly deserves it,” the animal organization wrote.
The humane society is a roughly 165-mile drive south from Tampa. More information about its adoption and foster programs can be found at hsnaples.org.
