Tram crash at Universal Studios Hollywood injures 15, California firefighters say

A studio tour tram at Universal Studios Hollywood crashed, injuring 15 people aboard, California firefighters reported.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that firefighters were dispatched to the studio and theme park at 9:05 pm. Saturday, April 20.

Fifteen passengers were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, firefighters said.

Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed the incident in a statement to KTLA, adding the park is working to understand what happened.

The studio tour, opened in 1964, takes visitors on trams through the studio backlot, visiting iconic film locations like the house in “Psycho,” NBC Universal said.

The tour also includes special effects shows including a flood, earthquake and encounter with King Kong. The ride celebrates its 60th anniversary next week.

The incident happened when a tram struck a rail after a mechanical problem, spilling passengers to the ground, CNN reported.

Universal Studios Hollywood is about a 10-mile drive northwest from downtown Los Angeles.
