A FedEx driver is accused of crashing through the front of an occupied home while under the influence, Louisiana police said.

The 31-year-old man failed a field sobriety test and now faces an array of charges, the Houma Police Department said.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on March 26, the man’s FedEx delivery truck swerved off the road and smashed into the home, police said in a news release.

Although the home was occupied, no one was injured, according to police.

Investigators reported they had reason to believe the driver was impaired, and they found him in possession of an open container of alcohol, marijuana and an opioid painkiller.

The home was occupied at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported, Louisiana police said.

Police attempted to take him into custody after the failed field sobriety test, but he resisted getting into the patrol car, authorities said. He was eventually taken to the police department, where he refused to undergo a breath test to see if he was under the influence, according to police.

Investigators got a search warrant for the man to take a blood test, but the results can take several weeks to come back, police told McClatchy News.

After the blood test, the man was booked in jail on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule IV narcotic and resisting an officer.

“Safety is our top priority, and we are grateful no one was injured,” a spokesperson for FedEx told McClatchy News in an emailed statement. “This is intolerable behavior, and the driver is no longer providing service on behalf of FedEx.”

Houma is about a 60-mile drive southwest of New Orleans.
