Family member’s 911 call leads rescuers to person trapped in snowy, remote cabin
A family member’s call for help prompted rescuers to save an injured person trapped in a remote and snowy cabin in Montana.
Rescuers received the call at 1:07 p.m. Nov. 11 for a person who needed help near Cabin Creek outside of West Yellowstone, the Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post.
The person needed “immediate medical treatment,” but they couldn’t make the trek from their backcountry cabin, rescuers said.
Rescuers communicated with the person through their inReach device, which is a satellite communicator that allows users to communicate without cell service.
The person was then taken to an ambulance where they were medically cleared, fire officials said.
West Yellowstone is a gateway town to Yellowstone National Park near the Montana-Wyoming border.
