A 28-year-old Missouri man was found dead in a body of water on Saturday, July 23, officials say.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the body of Tyler McDermott “was found floating, face down, in front of a wood dock” in Lonedell, about 50 miles southwest of St. Louis.

It’s unclear which waterway McDermott was found in. The area includes several ponds and the Lonedell Lake.

McDermott was the second drowning victim in Franklin County during the week. On July 21, a kayaker drowned after his vessel capsized, McClatchy News reported.

“The most genuine and kind-hearted person I knew and could always put a smile on your face,” Tyler Gregory said on Facebook of McDermott. “Amazing drummer and friend. The world lost a good one today.”

A relative remembered McDermott for his “contagious laugh at family functions.”

“Catching up with you about where life continued to bring us is something I always looked forward to during the holidays,” said Ashley Dotson. “I don’t think it’ll ever be the same without you.”

McDermott graduated from St. Clair High School and worked in construction, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
