Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique workers at Disney parks get a new, more inclusive job title

Workers at a classic shop at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will have new titles when the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reopens in August, Disney announced.

Formerly “Fairy Godmothers in Training,” cast members in the shops — which provide princess and prince makeovers for kids — will now be called “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices,” Disney said.

“This way cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character,” wrote Streaming The Magic, a third-party blog about the parks.

The shops at the parks in California and Florida are scheduled to reopen Aug. 25, Disney said.

The change to a more inclusive job title does have some detractors.

“The magic is gone,” read one Twitter post about the switch.

“This is ridiculous,” another critic wrote.

“Is it because apprenticeship implies Fairy Godmothers are unionized?” joked another Twitter post mocking the outraged comments.

Disney has not commented on the complaints, and did not immediately respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News.

Disney has recently made several changes to the parks to be more inclusive, including a remake of the Jungle Cruise ride to remove elements some considered racist.
