Man shoots accused thief driving through his makeshift roadblock, Oregon cops say
A man was arrested after officials said he created his own roadblock and shot an accused thief in Oregon.
The man, Douglas Brinton Walker, 64, shot the victim three times as they drove past him and his makeshift roadblock on Thompson Creek Road on Saturday, July 16, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A little before 10 p.m. authorities received a call about shots being fired and a car speeding northbound on Thompson Creek Road, deputies said. Shortly after, the “victim knocked on a resident’s door on the 17000 block of Highway 238 and reported being shot.”
Walker also called authorities around the same time saying he had set up a roadblock on Thompson Creek Road and shot a person who “allegedly stole items from his property,” officials said.
Oregon State Police, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call, according to the release. The victim was taken to a local hospital.
Walker has been charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree attempted murder, deputies said.
Jackson County is about 170 miles south of Eugene.
