2-year-old boy hospitalized after being shot outside Costco, Louisiana cops say

A 2-year-old boy was shot in the leg outside of a Costco store, Louisiana police said.

Officers responded to the shooting about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 at a Costco in New Orleans and rendered aid to the toddler, according to a news release from the New Orleans Police Department.

First responders brought him to a hospital, where he was in stable condition as of July 13, the release says.

The child was shot at the gasoline pumps outside of the Costco Wholesale store on Dublin Street, according to Nola.com.

Police originally reported that the victim was a 1-year-old.

Officers arrested Zyaire Cornelius, 18, who faces charges of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and possession of a stolen firearm, the release says.

The shooting was at least the third violent incident to happen outside the Costco this year, according to media reports.

A woman was run over with her own car during a carjacking at the store’s gas station in February. She was knocked unconscious as she tried to cling to the vehicle while the thief sped off.

Also in February, a man was shot and killed during a child custody swap outside the store, according to Nola.com.
