Victim beaten during home invasion, Kansas sheriff says. Man and woman arrested
Two individuals were arrested after Kansas authorities accused them of invading a home and assaulting the person inside.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home invasion incident at a home in Topeka at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, the office said in a news release.
When officers arrived, they found items from the home stolen and a victim “battered and restrained.”
The suspects fled the scene, but their vehicle — a black pickup truck — was caught briefly on the home security camera of a nearby residence, authorities reported. Officials released the surveillance video on July 7, appealing to community members for help identifying the vehicle.
The investigation led deputies to another Topeka residence where they recovered several stolen items during a search warrant, the sheriff’s office said.
On July 8, deputies announced they arrested a 26-year-old man and 23-year-old woman in connection to the incident. Authorities charged the pair with kidnapping, robbery, assault, and burglary. They were taken to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
The investigation is ongoing.
