Semi fatally hits 75-year-old picking up spilled items on interstate, Louisiana cops say

A 75-year-old man who walked in front of a semi-tractor on a highway has died from his injuries, Louisiana authorities said.

On June 4, Nelson Nunez was driving his 2011 Kia Optima on Interstate 10 in East Baton Rouge Parish when his roof rack broke and his items scattered across the highway, according to a release from the Louisiana State Police.

Nunez pulled over and attempted to collect his belongings, troopers said, and walked into the path of a 2023 Freightliner tractor and was hit..

Nunez suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he died around 4 p.m. on Monday, June 13.

The Freightliner driver did not suffer any injuries and the crash remains under investigation, according to police.
