A man in his 30s working in the area had stepped on the cover of a 15-foot well when it buckled under his weight, Ohio officials say.

Rescuers with Colerain Township Department of Fire and EMS units, alongside a medic unit and heavy rescue team, were quickly called to the scene at about 5:25 p.m. Feb. 2, according to a news release.

First responders say they found the man holding himself up on a ledge about 8 feet down from the surface, in a well with approximately 7 feet of water.

They then placed a ladder into the well, officials say, allowing the man to climb out with some help.

The rescue took about 12 minutes from when the call came in for help, according to the news release. The man refused medical treatment “despite the cold and wetness.”

Colerain Township is about 16 miles northwest of Cincinnati.
