Grandma, husband arrested after boy found unresponsive at Arizona hotel dies, cops say

An 11-year-old boy died after he was found unresponsive at an Arizona hotel, police said.

His grandmother, Stephanie Marie Davis, 51, and her husband, Thomas James Desharnais, 33, were arrested on charges of first-degree homicide and child abuse, the Scottsdale Police Department said in a news release on Jan. 31.

The child was found not breathing at the Extended Stay America hotel near Old Town Scottsdale before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, The Arizona Republic and police said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The grandmother’s bail is set at $3.5 million. Her husband’s bail is set at $1.5 million.

Another grandchild, a young boy, in the grandmother’s custody was removed by the Department of Child Services, police said.
