Body of woman missing for weeks found near SUV that slid off road, Oregon cops say

A person looking for a loose cow discovered the SUV of a woman who had been missing for weeks. That led officials to find her body, Oregon police said.

Bonnie Jo Short, a 77-year-old from Myrtle Creek, left her house in her silver Ford Escape on Nov. 27, the Myrtle Creek Police Department said. For two weeks, officials searched the area for Short.

On Dec. 13, a person searching for a loose cow spotted Short’s SUV off an old logging road, police said.

“Evidence at the scene suggests that Bonnie was trying to back up on the dirt logging road when her vehicle slid partially off the roadway and became stuck,” Myrtle Creek police said Dec. 15 on Facebook.

There was no one in the car, but the discovery prompted rescue officials to search nearby.

Officials found Short’s body less than a mile from her car, police said. There were no signs of foul play.

Myrtle Creek is about 190 miles south of Portland.
