Grand Canyon tourists reported they were recorded while using a toilet in the park over a year ago. Now park officials are searching for more women who may have been filmed.

The National Park Service said it is searching for potential female victims who were unknowingly recorded in the bathroom in Grand Canyon backcountry.

“In September 2020, park visitors at Phantom Ranch reported that they believed a maintenance worker had recorded them while using a toilet,” park officials said in a Dec. 8 news release. “The individual was subsequently fired and removed from the park.”

Park officials don’t know how many women may have been filmed in the restroom, according to the Department of the Interior. They do not think the suspect shared any of the images.

Investigators are searching for anyone who may have used a toilet between November 2018 and September 2020 at Indian Garden on the Bright Angel Trail, Phantom Ranch area, Bright Angel Campground or the South Kaibab and North Kaibab trails.

“NPS is dedicated to ensuring every victim of or witness to a crime that occurs in a national park is treated with dignity and respect, that they are informed of their legal rights, and provided with the support and services to which they are entitled,” officials said.

Anyone with information can reach out to officials by filling out a confidential online form with the FBI or by calling 928-318-8770.

Millions of people visit the Grand Canyon every year. More than 15 million people visited the park between 2018 and 2020, according to the National Park Service.
