Two killed when driver fleeing police rams into car and pedestrian, Colorado cops say
Two people were killed after a driver fleeing police rammed into a car and a pedestrian, Colorado authorities said.
Police were called about a suspicious vehicle Tuesday and soon learned the car was stolen, the Brighton Police Department said.
“When a second officer arrived in the area, the suspect vehicle rammed the officer’s vehicle,” police said in a news release. “The first officer activated his overhead lights in order to make a traffic stop on the car.”
Nicholas Vilarina, the 25-year-old driver, sped away from the scene, police said. Police followed the car.
Vilarina ignored a stop sign and crashed into another car, police said. A woman inside the car was ejected.
As he continued down the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a pedestrian, according to police.
The chase lasted about 2 minutes, police said.
The woman who was flung from the other car and the pedestrian were taken to the hospital and were later pronounced dead, police said.
Vilarina was taken into custody and was treated for “serious injuries,” authorities said. There was a woman inside the car with him, who was also injured in the chase.
Brighton is about 7 miles west of Denver.
