‘I had a feeling.’ Woman wins big time after buying $10 North Carolina lottery ticket
Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling.
That was the case for one North Carolina woman who walked away with a $200,000 prize, according to the N.C. Education Lottery Service.
“I was driving down the road and I had a feeling I should stop at that store — and I had a feeling I should get that ticket,” winner Linda Nadeau said Thursday in a news release.
The retired warehouse assistant was on her way home from getting her car fixed on Tuesday when she stopped at Ellie’s Crossroad Market on Morganton Boulevard to buy a $10 bigger spin scratch-off ticket, lottery officials said.
The cash prize “brought a bright note to a day spent paying for a car repair and updates for family phones,” Nadeau said in the news release.
She took home $141,503 (after taxes) from the lottery headquarters Wednesday in Raleigh, according to the release.
“Somebody has to win the big prize, and it might as well be me,” she said.
Although Nadeau and her husband are still deciding how best to spend their money, one thing’s for sure: Their yorkie, bichon and mixed-breed is set for life.
“I told my little dogs, ‘well now you can sure have all the chicken jerky treats you want!’” Nadeau said.
The $10 bigger spin game started in September and is made up of five $200,000 prizes, lottery officials said.
Three scratch-off prizes are still available. Five additional prizes are up for grabs during the game’s live event featuring a giant wheel with prizes ranging from $400,000 to $2 million.
