And the new Madden cover honor goes to.....

Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson!

Jackson revealed to reporters that he would grace the cover of Madden 21. Last year, the honor went to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who, as we know, ended up leading his team to a Super Bowl championship in 2020.

“It’s always been a dream of mine, since I was a little kid - since I first started playing Madden” the quarterback gushed about the honor in a video posted to the official Baltimore Ravens Twitter account. “It’s a dream come true.”

Only one problem – Jackson accidentally leaked the news before EA Sports, the developers of the popular video game, could unveil the news themselves, according to Forbes.

EA Sports took the news in stride and even made light of it on their own Twitter account.

Madden NFL has been a popular American football video game since the early 1990s and it’s considered an honor to be chosen to appear on the cover of the game...unless players fall victim to the “Madden curse,” which is a popular belief of whoever is placed on the cover falls victim to an NFL jinx and ends up injured the following season, according to CBS Sports.

“I’m not worried about the curse,” Jackson said when asked.

Even though Mahomes went on to become a Super Bowl champ, he still was out for a few games early on in the 2019-20 NFL season.

Here’s hoping that Jackson, who is coming off an historic season with the Ravens, doesn’t succumb to the injury jinx.

Jackson grew up in Pompano Beach, Florida, and committed to the University of Louisville where he received the Heisman Trophy during his sophomore year, the first ever in the school’s history, according to Heisman.com. He was also the youngest recipient to ever win the prestigious award, CBS Sports reported.

The 23-year-old quarterback threw for 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions last season, according to ESPN. He also rushed for 1,206 and seven scores.
