Some grocery stores open early for shoppers over age 65 amid coronavirus outbreak
Some stores across the U.S. are opening their doors early exclusively for seniors amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Target announced on Tuesday that it would reserve the first hour of shopping every Wednesday for seniors and people with underlying medical conditions, according to a press release.
Stores will also close at 9 p.m. every day, effective on Wednesday.
Northgate supermarket in La Habra, California, opened on Sunday a half-hour early for those age 65 and older, according to ABC7. They needed an ID for proof of age, the outlet reported.
In Lorain, Ohio, several stores will be opening early just for older adults.
Walmart will open on Tuesday at 5 a.m., according to Mayor Jack Bradley on his official Facebook page.
Fligner’s Market will open on Wednesday at 6 a.m., and Apples Grocery Store will open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6 a.m. for senior citizens.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has listed older adults and those with medical conditions including diabetes, heart disease, and lung disease as “high risk” for getting severely sick from coronavirus.
The CDC has recommended for people to buy supplies, keep distance from others and those who are sick, wash your hands often, avoid crowds, and stay home in order to avoid spreading and catching the virus.
