More fatalities on roads in Horry County in 2015 than any other in S.C.
Horry County has had more fatal traffic-related incidents through Sept. 20 of this year than any other S.C. county, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
As of Sept. 20, 667 people have died on S.C. highways, and 57 of those have occurred in Horry County. The total number for the state is up 101 over the same period last year, and Horry County’s fatal crashes are up 20 over the same period. The numbers include fatalities involving automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles and mo-peds.
Of the 447 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2015, 224 were not wearing seat belts.

Through Sept. 20, 73 pedestrians have died; 101 motorcyclists have died compared to 69 in 2014; and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 9 in 2014.
Georgetown County has had 10 traffic fatalities thus far this year.
