Horry County has 3 swing bridges. This helps drivers know when they’re open or closed
Horry County has three swing bridges.
Drivers trying to cross the bridges in Little River, Socastee or the Barefoot Swing Bridge in North Myrtle Beach at times can face delays if the bridges are closed to allow for passage of water traffic. However, it’s often not known if the bridges are open until motorists get there.
To help with that, the City of North Myrtle Beach has announced the addition of the Barefoot Swing Bridge to TheBridgeApp, which allows residents and visitors to check the status of the bridge before heading out.
Little River and Socastee swing bridges are also available on the app.
The free mobile app provides real-time bridge status information, allowing users to see whether the bridges are currently open or closed, according to a city Facebook post.
After downloading TheBridge App, viewers can select their location to view nearby bridges. Each bridge will appear along with its current operating status, making it easier to plan travel.
The addition of the Barefoot Swing Bridge to TheBridge App provides another convenient way for the public to access real-time information and better anticipate bridge openings, the post said.
TheBridge App is available for download on both Apple and Android devices.
