A section of Laurel Street in downtown Conway will soon be the site of construction as the City of Conway works on infrastructure improvements to the road.

Construction to the section of Laurel Street between 3rd and 4th avenues is set to start on July 6. During active construction, the affected part of Laurel Street will be fully closed.

To minimize the impacts of the construction on residents, visitors and downtown businesses, most of the work will be completed overnight between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m on Sundays through Thursdays.

The section of Laurel Street that will undergo construction is prone to flash flooding and has seen stormwater runoff enter adjacent buildings on several occasions, June Wood, public information officer for the City of Conway, wrote in a statement to The Sun News.

The construction is intended to improve various parts of the road’s infrastructure, including adding new stormwater piping and catch basin structures, upgrading the water and sewer infrastructure, and replacing pavement, sidewalks and curbing.

The City of Conway expects that the construction will be complete by the end of September.
