One person is dead after being hit by an unknown vehicle, authorities said.

Wayne Henry Sr., 65, appears to have been struck by a vehicle some time after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard by email. Henry, who lived in the area, was found just off the roadway near Juniper Bay Road in Conway and died of blunt traumatic injuries, Willard said.

Henry was walking with his bicycle in the roadway of Juniper Bay Road near Scenic Pines Drive when a vehicle hit him, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol in an email release.

The vehicle then drove off. This happened at approximately 5:41 a.m. on Sunday, Bolt said.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to an incident involving a person near the roadway, according to a social media post from the department.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with assistance from Horry County Police. The Horry County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.
