S.C. 90 crash at intersection leaves 1 person dead, 2 injured. Coroner names victim
A car crash killed one person after two vehicles collided at a S.C. 90 intersection Monday morning.
Ricky D. Thompson, 77, died at 3:04 p.m. Monday from injuries sustained in the car crash in the Longs area, according to a release from Tamara Willard, the Horry County chief deputy coroner.
At 6:50 a.m., Thompson was headed north on Monaca Drive in his pickup truck and began crossing S.C. 90 while a second truck was driving east on S.C. 90, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The two cars collided at the intersection.
The crash resulted in at least one person becoming trapped in their vehicle, according to a social media post from Horry County Fire Rescue.
It’s unclear who had the right of way.
Thompson, the only occupant in his car, and the two passengers in the second truck were sent to the Grand Strand Medical Center, according to Glover. The Longs man later died from his injuries, Willard said.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the crash while the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
