Update: Myrtle Beach teenager dies after crashing vehicle along highway near Socastee

A teenager died Monday after his car crashed into a tree along S.C. 31 near Socastee.

Jake Burzler, 19, died at the scene from blunt trauma, according to an email from Tamara Willard, Horry County chief deputy coroner.

The crash happened around 12:20 p.m. Monday near Enterprise Road when Burzler drove off the right side of the highway and crashed into a tree, said Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol in a release. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The accident closed down S.C. 31 until 3 p.m., according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the incident.
