Road closures to plan for this weekend for several special events, including Freedom Week
Several roads will be closed Saturday for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel along Ocean Boulevard from 15th to 8th avenues North.
Other events are also planned for Jan. 12 through Jan. 16 as part of the 2024 Grand Strand Freedom Week. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Jan. 15. The events are hosted by the Carolina African American Heritage Foundation.
Here are what roads will be closed, according to city officials.
Ocean Boulevard from 16th to 8th avenues North during the parade
- 9 a.m. – Staging area on Withers Drive, between 13th to 16th avenues North
- 9:45 a.m. – Ocean Boulevard, between 16th and 7th avenues North
- 9:45 a.m. – Post-staging area on 8th Avenue North, between Ocean Boulevard to Kings Highway
Roadways will be reopened as the parade moves southbound and all roads are expected to open by noon.
Drivers are encouraged to use wayfinding apps to navigate around the parade route.
