Update: Coroner identifies SC pedestrian struck and killed by semi along highway

Around 1 a.m. on Thursday, a semi-truck hit and killed a pedestrian along Highway 501.

The pedestrian was identified as Robert Wilkerson, 68, of Myrtle Beach, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Wilkerson was walking along Highway 501, about three miles south of Conway while the tractor trailer was driving South, according to South Carolina Department of Public Safety Master Trooper Brandon Bolt.

The truck struck Wilkerson when he tried to cross the highway, Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said. He died from injuries sustained from the accident. The truck driver was not hurt.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this incident.
