Several road closures planned throughout Myrtle Beach Saturday. Here’s what areas to avoid
Drivers can expect road closures throughout Myrtle Beach for two races happening Saturday.
Road closures will take place from 6 to 10:30 a.m. for the Myrtle Beach Mini-Marathon and Coastal 5K, according to city officials. Runners will begin at 8th Avenue North and the Boardwalk.
City officials are advising motorists to use Highway 17 Bypass and Kings Highway to get to destinations.
The following roads will be closed:
• Race beings at 7 a.m., intersection of 8th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard (closure 6 to 9 a.m.).
• Chester Street from 7th Avenue North to 8th Avenue North (6 to 8 a.m., 5k portion).
• Westbound lane of 7th Avenue North to Flagg Street (6 to 8 a.m., 5k portion).
• Flagg Street from 7th Avenue North to 8th Avenue North (6 to 8 a.m.).
• Southbound lane of Ocean Boulevard from First Avenue South to 63rd Avenue North (6:30 to 11 a.m.).
• North Ocean Boulevard and South Ocean Boulevard from 8th Avenue North to Mr. Joe White Avenue (6:30 to 9 a.m.).
• Northbound lane of Chester Street from Mr. Joe White Avenue to 16th Avenue North (7 to 9 a.m., 5K portion).
• 16th Avenue North from Chester Street to Ocean Boulevard (7 to 9 a.m., 5k portion).
• Westbound lane of Mr. Joe White Avenue from Kings Highway to Robert Grissom Parkway (7 to 9 a.m.).
• Northbound lane of Robert Grissom Parkway from Mr. Joe White Avenue to Granddaddy Drive (7 to 10 a.m.).
• Eastbound lane of 62nd Avenue North from the Highway 17 Bypass to Ocean Boulevard (7 to 10:30 a.m.).
For those wanting to cheer on the runners, here are the course routes for both races.
Mini-Marathon
• Start on Boardwalk at 8th Avenue North
• Turn left to go north onto Ocean Boulevard
• Turn left onto Mr. Joe White Avenue
• Turn right onto Robert Grissom Parkway
• Turn right onto Burroughs and Chapin for 1st out and back section
• Turn right toward Top Golf for 2nd out and back section
• Turn right onto Robert Grissom Parkway
• Once you cross over 48th Avenue, merge onto the sidewalk and turn right onto Perrin’s Path greenway
• Continue on Perrin’s Path across Granddaddy Drive
• Turn right onto 62nd Avenue North (this turns into Highland Avenue once you get closer to Ocean Boulevard)
• Turn right onto Ocean Boulevard and head south
• Turn left at 1st Avenue North into the parking lot
• Turn left to continue on the Boardwalk to the finish between 8th and 9th Avenue North
Coastal 5K
• Start at 8th Avenue North
• Turn right onto Chester Street
• Turn left onto 7th Avenue North
• Turn left onto Flagg Street
• Turn right onto 8th Avenue North
• Turn left onto Ocean Boulevard
• Turn left onto 10th Avenue North
• Turn right onto Chester Street
• Turn right onto 16th Avenue North
• Turn right onto Ocean Boulevard
• Turn left onto 1st Avenue North into the parking lot
• Turn left onto the Boardwalk
• Continue along the Boardwalk to the finish between 8th and 9th Avenue North
