UPDATE: Pedestrian dies in single vehicle crash on Highway 17 Bypass at Coventry Boulevard

A 28 year old man died after being hit by a car while crossing the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass N and Coventry Boulevard early Thursday morning, according to the Horry County Coroners Office.

Horry County Fire Rescue was called to the scene at 7:05 a.m, and closed lanes of traffic for hours.

The coroner identified the victim as Blake Thompkins, of Myrtle Beach. He was pronounced dead from multiple traumatic injuries at the scene.

Horry County Police Department and Myrtle Beach Police Department assisted in the crash.

South Carolina Department of Public Safety is investigating.
