Carolina Country Music Festival 2022 traffic patterns and problem areas

The Myrtle Beach Police Department released a traffic plan to prepare for the tens of thousands of country music fans coming to the area this week for the Carolina Country Music Festival.

From June 9-12, attendees will see performances from more than 30 artists at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place in downtown Myrtle Beach. Headliners for the event include Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban and Chase Rice.

Police department spokesman Tom Vest said traffic changes will be in effect from Wednesday to Tuesday.

Here’s the list of street closures:

  • Ocean Boulevard from 9th to 8th Avenues will be closed starting Wednesday at 8 a.m. until Tuesday at 8 a.m.

  • Ocean Boulevard will be closed from 8th to 7th Avenues starting at 8 a.m. Thursday until Monday at 8 a.m.

  • Ocean Boulevard traffic going north will be rerouted up 7th Avenue North to Kings Highway.

  • 9th Avenue North will close on Thursday at 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

  • Eastbound traffic on 9th Avenue North will stop at 8 a.m. from Chester Street to Ocean Boulevard Wednesday and all the way to Kings Highway Thursday.

  • 8th Avenue North will close Thursday at 8 a.m. until noon Monday.

  • Chester Street will close from 7th to 8th Avenues Thursday at 8 a.m. and reopen noon Monday.

  • York Street will close between 7th and 8th Avenues Thursday at 7 a.m. and reopen noon Monday.

  • Chester Street, from 9th to 10th Avenues, will be closed at these times: Thursday — 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday — 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

  • Ocean Boulevard will be closed from Mr. Joe White Avenue to 9th Avenue North at these times: Thursday —Noon to 12:30 a.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday — Noon to 1 a.m.

Vest said businesses will be accessible from the sidewalks, and local traffic will be allowed on York and Chester streets.

Drivers can rely GPS apps such as Google Maps and Waze because they will recognize street closures, he added.
